James “Jimmy” Millard Jones, Sr.

James “Jimmy” Millard Jones, Sr., 72, died February 19, 2023 at the Bon Secours Community Hospice House in Chesterfield, Va.

He is the son of the late Tom and Jeanette Jones of Purdy, Va. He was also preceded in death by his son, James M. Jones Jr.

He is survived by his children, Tommy Jones (Jennifer) of Bowling Green, KY, Michelle Jones Powell of Pearisburg, VA, and Brynn Jones of Pearisburg, VA; brothers, Mike Jones (Pat) of Purdy, VA, Larry Jones of Prineville, OR; sisters, Patsy Barnes (Joe) of Purdy, VA and Debbie J. Coles (Bob) of Toano, VA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brittany and Abbey Jones (FL), Clinton and Thomas Jones (Bowling Green, KY), Brooke, Blaire and Brylee Powell (Pearisburg, VA); as well as many beloved cousins, community and business friends.

James grew up as an active member of Grace Church, Purdy, Va., but more recently was a member of the Pembroke United Methodist Church in Pembroke, VA. He was a 1968 graduate of Greensville Co. High School, Emporia, VA. Then attended VA Tech 1968-69 and remained a loyal VT Hokie supporter.

James was a dual member of Giles Masonic Lodge No. 106 and Castle Rock Lodge No.334; a member of the Pearisburg Royal Arch No. 29 and Kazim Temple in Roanoke, VA. A member of the Giles County Shriner Club including the Clown Unit, The Misfits. James treasured his days and spare time spent with his metal detecting “buddies” relic hunting.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023 in the Grace Anglican Church Cemetery by Rev. Doug Kimemia.

A reception will follow the service.
