Max Scott Jennell

Max Scott Jennell, 87, of Virginia Beach died November 25 at his home, Westminister Canterbury in Virginia Beach. He was born in Abingdon, Virginia and was predeceased by his father Benjamin R. Jennell, mother Mayme Jennell Umbarger, stepfather Howard Umbarger, three sisters Frances Mullins, Patsy Sagen and Peggy Younger. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and four nieces Deborah M. Ott and Tina M. Joyce of Eugene, Missouri; Tamba Loll {Gary} of Woodridge, Illinois; and Starla Younger of Linden, Virginia. Mr. Jennell served in the Army 82nd Air Borne Division.

He graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science Cincinnati, Ohio. After completing requirements for Funeral Directors License for National and State Mr. Jennell worked with Graham Funeral Home in South Norfolk before acquiring Caffee Funeral Home in Newport News in l965. The name was later changed to Jennell Funeral Home. In1970 a funeral home was built in Newport News in Denbigh. In l980 Mr. Jennell moved to Eastville, VA and was associated with Fox Funeral Homes and later owned and operated Cape Charles Cleaners.

He was a Golden Licensee Recipient in 2016 from the Virginia Funeral Directors Association for 55 years of service to his profession.

While attending classes at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine he recognized the importance of body donation to medical science and consequently chose to denote his body to the State Anatomical Board of Virginia.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Chapel Westminster Canterbury.
