    Joyce Hogg Bristow age 86 of Gloucester Point, died peacefully at her home on Monday, May 8, 2023. She was the daughter of the late James Roland and Stella Rowe Hogg of Wicomico, a licensed funeral director and Vice President of Hogg Funeral Home. Joyce enjoyed multiple careers, in interior design and she was the founder of Fabrics Unique which later became the Guild Hall of Williamsburg and she remained CEO until her retirement. She was nominated “The Mayor” of Stage Coach after establishing the Pig Pen Design and enjoyed many weekends socializing. She is survived by her husband David V. Bristow, 2 daughters Vicki Lynn Bristow, and Stella Deanne Bristow, and granddaughters Tyler Kitchens and Bree Kitchens-Neuberger (David). The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Hogg Funeral Home. A graveside service officiated by the Reverend John Edwin Hogg will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 11, 2023, in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.     William H. Mountcastle, 59, of Woodbridge, VA died April 13, 2023 at Annandale Healthcare Center. "Wild Bill" as he was affectionately known, was born to B. Earle Mountcastle and Patricia Yeatman Bing February 19, 1964 in Washington, DC. He is also survived by his daughter, Crystal Mountcastle; and his sister, Lynne Mountcastle.

    Born in Washington D.C., he was raised in Woodbridge, where he spent most of his life. He received an Associate’s Degree in Funeral Services from Miami-Dade College; as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Virginia Commonwealth University. He was licensed as Funeral Director in the Commonwealth of Virginia and Florida.

    During his younger years, he had a passion for racing motorcycles and was mechanically inclined. Bill was an avid outdoorsman; his hobbies included traveling, boating, and skiing. If you knew him, you know he was very skeptical of any official news outlet.

    Honaker, VA- Burke Hess, age 90, went to be with the Lord, Monday April 24, 2023. Burke was born March 14, 1933, in Russell County, VA to the late Beverly Hess and the late Josie Owens Hess. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with thirty-four years of service and was the former pastor of Gent’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church for fifteen years. Burke was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Korea.

    Besides his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife of sixty-nine years, Virginia Frances Hess; sons, Willard Dean Hess and Michael Foster Hess; daughter-in-law, Sharon Fields Hess; sisters, Ethel Mae Lister, Mary Frances Taylor, Tella Sue Dasher, and Bertha Lee Taylor.

    Burke is survived by his daughter, Deanna “Pheebe” Rowe and husband, Chris; son, Sammy Hess; sisters, Ruba Slate, Gladys Pearl May and husband, Bill, and Ruth Hale; brothers, Curtis Hess, Earl Gene Hess, and Charlie Hess; grandchildren, Sam Hess and wife, Vickie, Jason Rowe and wife, Brianna, and Justin Rowe and wife, Amanda; Amanda McGlothlin and husband, Brian, Adam Hess and wife, Jessica, Aaron Hess and wife, Brittney, Alania Sykes and husband, Daniel; great-grandchild, Macie Wallace and husband, Connor and expected great-grandson, Carson Rowe, several other great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hensley and husband, Bill; daughter-in-law, Cathy Hess; several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Special thank you to nieces Audrey Key and Debbie Dangerfield.

    The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday April 26, 2023, in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Bill Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the funeral service. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

    In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.

    James “Jimmy” Millard Jones, Sr., 72, died February 19, 2023 at the Bon Secours Community Hospice House in Chesterfield, Va.

    He is the son of the late Tom and Jeanette Jones of Purdy, Va. He was also preceded in death by his son, James M. Jones Jr.

    He is survived by his children, Tommy Jones (Jennifer) of Bowling Green, KY, Michelle Jones Powell of Pearisburg, VA, and Brynn Jones of Pearisburg, VA; brothers, Mike Jones (Pat) of Purdy, VA, Larry Jones of Prineville, OR; sisters, Patsy Barnes (Joe) of Purdy, VA and Debbie J. Coles (Bob) of Toano, VA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brittany and Abbey Jones (FL), Clinton and Thomas Jones (Bowling Green, KY), Brooke, Blaire and Brylee Powell (Pearisburg, VA); as well as many beloved cousins, community and business friends.

    James grew up as an active member of Grace Church, Purdy, Va., but more recently was a member of the Pembroke United Methodist Church in Pembroke, VA. He was a 1968 graduate of Greensville Co. High School, Emporia, VA. Then attended VA Tech 1968-69 and remained a loyal VT Hokie supporter.

    James was a dual member of Giles Masonic Lodge No. 106 and Castle Rock Lodge No.334; a member of the Pearisburg Royal Arch No. 29 and Kazim Temple in Roanoke, VA. A member of the Giles County Shriner Club including the Clown Unit, The Misfits. James treasured his days and spare time spent with his metal detecting “buddies” relic hunting.

    A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023 in the Grace Anglican Church Cemetery by Rev. Doug Kimemia.

    A reception will follow the service.

    Richard William Martin, Jr., 64, of Madison Heights passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Sharon Moorefield Martin for 30 years.

    Born on July 19, 1958 in Lebanon, PA, he was the son of the late Richard William Martin, Sr. and Edith Jones Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Graeme Justin Kutt.

    Richard was a retired professional firefighter having served in the Augusta Georgia Fire Department, Martinez Fire Department and Savannah River Site Fire Unit with over 20 years of service and a retired customer service representative from Warfield-Rohr Casket Company with 20 years of service.

    He was an avid gristmill enthusiast, bee keeper, hobby viticulturist, and loved spending time outdoors.

    In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory two half-sisters, Brenda Hefner of Washington, Georgia, and Judy McMinn of Amarillo, Texas, a brother-in-law, Garry Moorefield and wife, Josephine Virginia Moorefield and a nephew, Tony Moorefield all of Roanoke; and his feline companion, Tiggy.

    A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory 427 Graves Mill Road in Lynchburg by Chaplain Richard Thigpen with burial to follow in Meade Cemetery in Madison Heights. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

    Rev. Richard Hubert “Dick” Horne of Christiansburg, went to be with his Lord on March 3, 2023. He was 76 years old. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. H. Leveta Horne and her husband, Eric Brown; his four granddaughters, Rachel Altizer and her husband, Daniel Altizer, Grayce Woodrum and her husband, Preston Woodrum, Quinn Horne, and Makenna Horne; two great-grandchildren, Theo Horne and Rory Altizer; sister-in-law, Katinka Hawley and her husband, Dale Hawley, and their children John Hawley and Jeff Hawley; brother-in-law, Michael Knowles; cousin, Linda Stone; and loving caretakers who became family, Dora Byrd, Brooklyn McDonald, Brittany Townley, and Brianna Lambeth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Louise Horne; aunts, Ernestine Slusher and Donna June Baber; his wife, Patricia Horne; and his son, Brian Richard Hubert Horne.

    The son and honorary grandson of funeral directors, he grew up in the profession. He and his parents lived in the funeral home until his teenage years. Dick was licensed by the Virginia Department of Health Professionals in 1969 and, in 2019, he was awarded his “Golden License” for 50 years of service to the profession. He considered it an honor to serve his community through his profession.

    Dick was born and raised in Christiansburg VA and was a member of Christiansburg High School’s class of 1965. He continued his studies earning degrees from Ferrum College and Lynchburg College. He was ordained as a minister in the Southern Baptist Church in 1968 and preached at a variety of churches and different denominations including Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian. Dick felt led to return to the church of his childhood, Christiansburg Presbyterian Church and served as a faithful member for several decades until the time of his death. He preached over 940 funerals and performed dozens of weddings.

    Dick was dedicated to community service and began first in the Ambulance service through the funeral home and, in 1969, joined the Christiansburg Life Saving Crew, later known as the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, when they took over the ambulance service. He served there for eight years as chaplain and training officer. He was certified as a Basic and Light Duty Rescue instructor by the Virginia Association of Rescue Squads and was an American Red Cross First Aid instructor for many years. He also served as a Disaster Response Coordinator for FEMA. He also served over four decades on the Christiansburg Fire Department as a proud volunteer firefighter and in officer positions of chaplain and secretary-treasurer. The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors presented him with a 50 year service award.

    A longtime local history buff, Dick served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery Museum.

    Dick was a member of the Christiansburg’s Chapter # 86 McDaniel Mason’s lodge for over 50 years.

    Dick and his wife Pat were animal lovers and their home often became a refuge for many stray animals who somehow knew they would find a loving home with them, and they did. In lieu of flowers, Dick requested donations be sent to the Humane Society of Montgomery County.

    The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Horne Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic Rites Service at 6 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Alex Darby officiating. Graveside Services will be private in Sunset Cemetery.

    Charles Ramsey Reynolds, 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 in Fishersville, Virginia. He was born in Bedford, Virginia to Thomas Edwin Reynolds and Marguerite Ramsey Reynolds. He is survived by his loving partner, Frances Arthur Winegar, and two children, Chad Ramsey Reynolds and Dena Renee Reynolds.

    Charles began his career as a funeral director in Richmond, Virginia working at Bennett Funeral Home after graduating from Mortuary School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He later moved to Waynesboro, Virginia, managing Reynolds Funeral Homes in Waynesboro and Stuarts Draft for over 30 years. He dedicated much of his life to serving families in the time of their greatest need.

    A Celebration of Life Service will be held at West Waynesboro Church of Christ on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a contribution to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

    Christopher Hayes Williams, 58, passed away February 27, 2023, after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was preceded in death by his father, Isaac J. Williams, Sr., and his sister, Agnes M. (Lisa) Hite; brothers, Isaac J. Williams, Jr., and Edward P. Williams; and his stepfather, Nasa F. Jennette.

    A native of Portsmouth, VA, Chris graduated from Portsmouth Catholic High School and studied computer science at Old Dominion University. Chris worked in the hospitality industry for several years, managing hotels, eventually becoming a standards inspector for a major hotel chain. Chris went on to own and operate several businesses, including co-founding C&L Containers, Inc., one of the largest family owned and operated manufacturers of cremation and shipping containers used in the funeral industry. Chris' true passion was computers. He developed numerous programs which were used to more efficiently run the family business.

    Chris was loved and admired by all who knew him. He was blessed with a kind spirit, a loving heart, and a wicked sense of humor. Chris handled the debilitating results of MS with such grace and dignity, and never a complaint. Only showing concern and care for others, you never doubted his love. He had a smile that would light up a room and a calmness that radiated when you were in his presence. Chris has left a huge void in so many lives and will be missed by all.

    Chris is survived by his loving mother, Agnes Fulcher Jennette of Currituck; his sister, Lori Ann Eanes and husband James, also of Currituck; his nephews, Matthew Russo and wife Emily, Ronald McVey III and wife Jaclyn, and James McVey and wife Jennifer; his niece, Cami Slagle and husband Mead; his great-nieces and nephews, Taylor, Arianna, Hazel, Grace, Emit, Jillian, Jackson, Ashton, Carlee; three great-nephews, and a host of cousins. Chris was blessed with a loving family and friends- especially his closest and dearest friends, Hien Tran, Mike Wagner, and Candi Beneze.

    The family would like to thank the entire staff of Peak Resources, in Nags Head, for providing Chris with care and compassion for the past 11 years. Also, the doctors and nurses at ECU Medical Center and Palliative Care for their unwavering compassion during this time.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 2 pm at Gallop Memorial Chapel in Barco, NC (4055 Caratoke Highway Barco, NC 27929). Family and friends will gather immediately following the service at Bell Island Club House on Bells Island Road in Currituck, NC. In lieu of flowers; share an act of kindness and love.

    Holmes Cavet “Buddy” McLaughlin, 78, of Hot Springs, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at his residence while surrounded by family and friends.

    He was born October 14, 1944, in Hot Springs, the son of the late David Holmes McLaughlin and Claurice Liptrap McLaughlin.

    In his younger years Buddy was an avid coon hunter. He was a 1963 Graduate of Valley High School where he played baseball and basketball; and a 1966 Graduate of John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science. Buddy worked in the family business with his father for numerous years at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home. In 1973 he started work at Bath County Community Hospital as a Radiologic Technologist and Phlebotomist, retiring after 48 years of dedicated service.

    Buddy was a charter and lifetime member of the Hot Springs Rescue Squad which was established in 1963, as well as the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department. He became an EMT in 1965, an Instructor in 1974, a Cardiac Technician in 1982, and an EMT Intermediate in 2013. He was certified as a Basic Rescue Technician in 1990 and Cave Rescue in 1993. He was the recipient of the 1994 Central Shenandoah EMS Council Senior Rescue Squad Member of the Year. In 1995 he was the recipient of the prestigious Governor’s Award for Outstanding Prehospital Provider. Among other offices in the Hot Springs Rescue Squad he served as Captain for 17 years, just like his father did before him. Buddy earned the respect, praise, and admiration from EMS providers throughout the region and state. He was a fierce competitor at the Rescue Squad State Competitions which he looked forward to attending each year. His tireless efforts have been received and appreciated by so many within our community.

    Buddy also volunteered as the sponsor and instructor for the Community Health & Occupation Club at Bath County High School for many years.

    He was married to the late Nancy Sue Huffman McLaughlin, his wife of 51 years who preceded him in death on November 10, 2018.

    Surviving are his children, James Cavet “JC” McLaughlin & special friend Gwyndalene White of Hot Springs, Lori Crist & husband Steven of Stephens City, Virginia; grandchildren, Trevor Austin McLaughlin, Farren Elizabeth Crist, and Brady Kellan Crist.

    A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023, at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Donald Lee Altizer officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Hot Springs Rescue Squad and the Hot Springs Fire Department. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Hot Springs Rescue Squad or to the Hot Springs Fire Department, P.O. Box N, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.

    Leslie Ann (Phelps) Beach was called home to her Lord on February 26, 2023 while residing at home in Winchester, Virginia. Leslie was born on October 15, 1942 in Washington, DC to Leslie Duvall Phelps and Margaret E. Clarke Phelps.

    She is proceeded in death by her parents Leslie D. Phelps and Margaret Clarke Phelps, sisters Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Farel and Judy G. Davidson.

    She is survived by her husband of 60 years Charles E. Beach of Winchester, 2 daughters Suzanne Walley (Greg Walley) of Round Hill, VA owners of Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, VA and Andrea Silvernale (David Silvernale) of Leesburg, VA; her grandchildren; Ryan Walley (Brenda); Chad Walley; Andrew Silvernale (Lindsey), Taylor Walley and Ashley Silvernale Luehr (Joel); her great grandchildren; Harper, Brielle, Levi, Case and Duke and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.

    Leslie Ann graduated from James Wood Highschool in 1960. Married Charles Beach on May 12, 1962. She worked for the United States Government until she decided to stay home with her girls. Later in life her love was working with preschoolers. She enjoyed spending time with her family, floral arranging, traveling and entertaining and taking care of the love of her life – Charles.

    Family will receive friends on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd.,NE., Leesburg, VA 20176. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Shenandoah Valley Baptist Church, 4699 Valley Pike, Stephens City, VA 22655, where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 am. Immediately following the service will be a reception at the church. A graveside is scheduled at 2:30 at Ebenezer Cemetery, 20421 Airmont Road, Bluemont, VA 20135.
