Charles Edward Pryor

February 2, 2021

On Saturday, January 30, 2021, Heaven gained another angel and great man when Charles Edward Pryor left this world to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born December 23, 1938 in Buena Vista, VA where he met and married the love of his life, Susie, on January 5, 1963. Shortly after their marriage he left to serve in the US Army in Okinawa, Japan for four years. Upon leaving the service Charles attended Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science where he graduated in 1973. In 1976 he followed his passion for serving others and began his career with Oakey’s Funeral Service retiring after 43 years. He was a natural at showing compassion and support to many families in and around the Roanoke Valley during their difficult time of losing their loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susie Pryor. His children, Troy Pryor and Sherry Hodges. His daughter in law Sharon Pryor and son in law, Brian Hodges. His cherished grandson, Hayden Charles Hodges as well as his grandpups, Ruby and Matilda. Charles was a strong, caring man that never met a stranger. His desire to take care of others was apparent in everything he did especially when it came to taking care of family. He enjoyed traveling, working on his cars, attending car shows and just spending time with his family. He will be forever remembered by countless family members and friends whose lives he impacted by his strong sense of humor and compassion. There will be a private ceremony with family to celebrate his life on Wednesday February 3rd with Pastor Joel Wegner and John Dooley officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Lions Club where Charles served as a member for many years. Arrangements are by Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel (540-982-2100).
