Shortly after their marriage he left to serve in the US Army in Okinawa, Japan for four years. Upon leaving the service Charles attended Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science where he graduated in 1973. In 1976 he followed his passion for serving others and began his career with Oakey’s Funeral Service retiring after 43 years. He was a natural at showing compassion and support to many families in and around the Roanoke Valley during their difficult time of losing their loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susie Pryor. His children, Troy Pryor and Sherry Hodges. His daughter in law Sharon Pryor and son in law, Brian Hodges. His cherished grandson, Hayden Charles Hodges as well as his grandpups, Ruby and Matilda. Charles was a strong, caring man that never met a stranger.
