Darryl Thomas Myers
Darryl Thomas Myers, 72 of Danville went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 12, 2022.
Born in Danville on June 22, 1950 a son of the late Hobert Covington Myers and Janie Hedrick Myers
Darryl has been a native of Danville and Pittsylvania County his entire life. After graduating from Dan River High School in 1968 Darryl joined the Virginia National Guard and completed 6 ½ years of service. In 1978 he received his Associate Degree in Police Science, while being employed as a Danville Police Officer. During his 28 years of service he wore many hats; patrol, K-9 handler and instructor, DARE instructor, undercover drug and regular investigator. During this time, he met and married Karen Clark Myers and they have been married for 38 years.
Darryl has been with the Elks for over 30 years and held the office of Exalted Ruler of the Danville Lodge, District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, and Virginia Elks Association President, VEA Trustee and remains a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Improved Order of Red Men. In the past he has served as a member of the Ringgold Fire Department, Danville Life Saving Crew and American Legion. He is also a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for over 15 years.
After Darryl retired from the Police Department he stayed true to his calling of serving others. He worked for Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, drove charter buses and was a wedding officiant.
You could often find Darryl outdoors on his Kubota tractor with his faithful companion Bella. He loved observing God’s beautiful creation and often said he did his best thinking while riding that tractor. Darryl enjoyed listening to blue grass music and attending bluegrass festivals, traveling, and sharing good food with his wife, family and friends. His honest and quick witted way he had with words was surely one of his many gifts. Darryl’s marriage to Karen is an everlasting love that has no end. That love story is not over, only paused until God’s perfect time of reunion.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a donation to a local non-profit charity of your choice.
