Dave Marvin Casto

July 16, 2022

Sunday, July 10, 2022 was a glorious day in Heaven as Dave Marvin Casto was welcomed into his eternal home. Dave was born July 21, 1952 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, the son of Rufus Dodson Casto (a Methodist minister) and Clarice McClanahan Casto. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his significant other, Karen R. Stevens, of Waynesboro, Virginia; and a sister, Sandra Johnson and her family of Lancaster County, Virginia. Dave had no children of his own, but he loved and adored Karen’s children and grandchildren. In fact, at the mature age of 66, Dave fed and held a newborn infant for the first time. He loved that, but said he would never change a diaper (and he stayed true to his word).

Dave lived a life of service to others through his work in law enforcement with the Lancaster County and Shenandoah County Sheriffs’ departments, and Funeral Director for several funeral homes throughout the country, most recently being Heishman Funeral Services in Bowman’s Crossing, Virginia, and McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Virginia. He served as Pastor to Liberty Brethren Church in Quicksburg, VA for many years and filled in for many other pastoral needs in the Woodstock community. In his early years, he served with the United States Air Force as a Computer Specialist and was honorably discharged in 1976. He was involved in the Masonic Lodge (Lee Lodge 209) and the American Legion Post 340 where he had recently been appointed as Chaplain.

Dave was kind-hearted, loving, playful, and had a terrific sense of humor. He loved to travel and during the three and half years he and Karen were together, they enjoyed their time going to many places, National Parks, Smokey Mountains, beaches, and even camping. He especially liked traveling to Washington DC to take in the monuments and visit Arlington National Cemetery. He loved anything involving the military, and held the highest respect for his country and the flag.

Dave’s wishes were to be cremated and buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held at McDow Funeral Home, July 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a Masonic Service by Lee Lodge 209 following the Memorial Service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lee Lodge 209, P.O. Box 209, Waynesboro, Virginia or Augusta Health Foundation c/o: Hospice of the Shenandoah P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939.
