Kermit Forrest White
Kermit Forrest White, 94, of Danville, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Born in Person County, Mr. White was the son of the late Cyrus Clifton and Vivian Oakley White and husband of the late Aurora Arroyo White. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, C.J., Lawrence, Jack and Bernard White.
A proud veteran, Mr. White served in the US Army during the Korean War. His career spanned over seven decades as a licensed funeral director in both Virginia and North Carolina, dedicating 47 years to Swicegood-Barker Funeral Home.
Throughout his life, Mr. White was deeply involved in his community. He was a member for over 60 years with the American Legion Memorial Post 325 and served as a past commander. Kermit also was a member of Poquoson Tribe of Red Men #124 and a proud member of Virginia Tech Alumni Association, Danville Chapter.
Those who knew Mr. White often remarked on what a kind and good man he was—someone who treated everyone with respect and warmth. His gentle nature and dedication to his family and community left a lasting impact on all who interacted with him.
Mr. White is survived by two children, Renee White Thornhill and Rodney Forrest White and wife Laura; four grandchildren, Shannon T. Firebaugh and husband Lance, Eric Thornhill and wife Stephanie, Vivian White and Cecilia White; one great-grandchild, Nolan Firebaugh; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Brooks & White Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Burchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (10-11AM).
Pallbearers will be Eric Thornhill, Lance Firebaugh, Bill White, Thomas Bovee, Philip Winstead and Cody Tatum.
