Reverend Raymond Otis Colston
Reverend Raymond Otis Colston, of Virginia Beach, VA, born February 10, 1931 in South Mills, NC, went to his eternal home on November 1, 2022. He was the widow of Dolores Colston and also was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Jesse F. Colston, Sr., and Marian W. Colston, his siblings Jesse Colston Jr., Thomas Colston, Margaret Hester, Fred Colston.
Rev. Colston worked with Hecht, JC Penney and Leggett Department Stores before entering the ministry. After attending public schools in Virginia he graduated from Campbell College, Wake Forest College and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as minister of Education at Fuquay Springs Baptist Church in North Carolina. He pastored churches in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida and South Carolina which included Sandy Run, Fort Lawn, Crewe, Central, Immanuel, Ortega, Black Water and Trinity Baptist Churches. Upon retirement he has been Pastor Emeritus at Central Baptist Church in Norfolk since 2005. He was Past President of the Virginia Alumni of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and on the Board of Ministers at Campbell University.
Survivors include two sons Ray Colston, Bobby Colston and wife Cyndi, a daughter Debbie Moose; five grandchildren Crystal C. Redden (Clyde), Ryan Colston, Ashley C. Jernigan (Bruce), Amy Moose and Alissa Moose; two great grandsons Branson Redden and Jensen Jernigan and several nieces and nephews and other special relatives, and all of the many church members that worked with him and organizations that the Lord led him to serve.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, 701 W. Olney Road, Norfolk, Virginia. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
